Many Believed!

Many believed on Jesus! It was a difficult time for many. Who should they believe, Jesus or John the Baptist? Both! Everything that John the Baptist said about Christ was true, but it was Jesus who showed the power of God through the miracles He did.

39 Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand,

40 And went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode.

41 And many resorted unto him, and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true.

42 And many believed on him there.

(John 10:39-42King James Version)

Notice, that Jesus never stayed long in places where His Word was not received. After His discussion with the unbelieving Pharisees, Jesus left and went beyond the Jordan. During this time, many of the people were caught between John the Baptist and Jesus. Who should they believe?

The truth was, they should believe both. Everything that John the Baptist said about Christ was true. But, it was Jesus who showed the power of God in Him through the miracles He did. So, it was Jesus they followed.

Do we ever get caught in circumstances where we just do not know which direction to go? Everyone does at some time or another. It is not always easy, but finding the answer may be related more to Christ than you realize.

Are you following the path God has made just for you. Look at your own personal abilities and desires and ask the question, "Why did God make me this way? What is there in my own abilities and makeup that would suit me perfectly for the path He has chosen for me? Now, look at your choices. Does one seem to answer that question more than the other?

No matter what choices we have in life, we will only be led into sin and misery if we neglect our Lord in the choices we make.

Thomas Chisholm, in his beautiful song, "Living for Jesus," expressed this concept very well:

Living for Jesus a life that is true,
Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.

Refrain:

O Jesus, Lord and Savior,
I give myself to Thee,
For Thou, in Thy atonement
Didst give Thyself for me;
I own no other Master,
My heart shall be Thy throne,
My life I give, henceforth to live,
  O Christ, for Thee alone.

Living for Jesus who died in my place,
Bearing on Calv’ry my sin and disgrace;
Such love constrains me to answer His call,
Follow His leading and give Him my all.

Living for Jesus wherever I am,
Doing each duty in His holy name;
Willing to suffer affliction and loss,
Deeming each trial a part of my cross.

Living for Jesus through earth’s little while,
My dearest treasure, the light of His smile;
Seeking the lost ones He died to redeem,
Bringing the weary to find rest in Him.

Why are we left here on this earth after we become a Christian? We are left here because God has a work for us to do. How are we showing forth the love of our Father God in the life we are now leading?

Nothing is more important than our living for Christ. Nothing!
