Spiritual Crowns. The Christian life is an active life; the person who is not going forward in their Christian walk is going backward! There is no in between.
“ Let your heart retain my words;
Keep my commands, and live.
5 Get wisdom! Get understanding!
Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth.
6 Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you;
Love her, and she will keep you.
7 Wisdom is the principal thing;
Therefore get wisdom.
And in all your getting, get understanding.
8 Exalt her, and she will promote you;
She will bring you honor, when you embrace her.
9 She will place on your head an ornament of grace;
A crown of glory she will deliver to you.”
Proverbs 1:4-9, NKJV
What a beautiful way to begin the book of Proverbs!
How do we get crowns that are spiritual? Get wisdom! Get understanding! This is not wisdom that comes from studying or going to college; this is wisdom that comes through obedience to God's Word.
Though we are not saved by works, we do work to grow closer to the Lord. Notice the active commands we are given.
Do not turn away from the words of God's mouth.
Do not forsake her.
The Christian life is an active life; the person who is not going forward in their Christian walk is going backward! There is no in between. Actively pursue Godliness; read the Word; spend time in prayer every day; become an active part of a Bible believing church; seek to serve the Lord using the talents and abilities that He has given to you.
In all of this, don't look for a reward here on earth; as Christians, we are enemies of a world running after Satan. Wisdom will, however, bring us honor and place an ornament of grace upon our heads.
A crown of glory she will deliver to you. That crown of glory is worth more than all of the gold or silver upon this earth. In heaven we will take that crown and cast it at the feet of the Lord. Now that is something to look forward to!
Pray today for that God will help you to work for crowns that are spiritual which are received through a faithful walk with the Lord.
