Prince of Peace

Prince of Peace. World peace! We all want it but how do we obtain it? Could it be that the answer was given to us thousands of years ago by a prophet named Isaiah?

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

Isaiah 9:6 and 7, NKJV

Prince of Peace. World peace! We all want it but how do we obtain it? Could it be that the answer was given to us thousands of years ago by a prophet named Isaiah?

Prince of Peace - A Child

Over two thousand years ago, Isaiah introduces us to a Person Who would be Known as the Prince of Peace. He first tell us that this Child would be born. That tells us that Whoever this Prince of Peace is, He will not just magically appear, but rather, He will be born--He will be a Human.

Those of us who are familiar with the Christmas story know that, indeed, this very thing happened. We are familiar with the Baby in the manger born to Mary and Joseph. We know from Matthew and Luke that an angel appeared to Mary, who was a virgin, and told her that a child would be born to her. She would be impregnated by the Holy Spirit.

What else does Isaiah tell us?

Prince of Peace - A Son

Unto us a Son is given.

Who was this Son? He was not a mere man. Though He was a human, He was also the Son of God.

But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

John 20:31, NKJV

So we learn that this baby, the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Why is this so important? Being the Son of God, Jesus, unlike us, is perfect. Only the Perfect Son of God could pay the debt of our sins. But, Isaiah tells us more about this Child and Son.

Prince of Peace

Isaiah continues to tell us that this Child and Son is the Prince of Peace. The government shall be on His shoulder and of this peace there shall be no end.

6 And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end.

Isaiah 9:6 & 7, NKJV

Jesus, the Son of God can and will do what no man has ever or will ever be able to do. Jesus will bring about world peace! But there is more. To the true believer, Jesus Christ has already brought peace. Charles Simeon, an 18th century Anglican minister said the following.

There is no true peace or happiness in the world except that which arises from the Gospel of Christ; for God himself testifies that there is no peace to the wicked. But where the Gospel truly prevails, peace and joy immediately spring up as its proper fruits.

Prince of Peace - Peace in Your Heart

As I write this devotional, it is 2020 and our world is in the middle of a world-wide pandemic. How, in this situation, can anyone have peace?

It does not matter what is going on in the world. For the true believer, there is peace and quiet even in the middle of a pandemic. We know that God is in control. We do not know what the results will be, but we are confident that we are kept in the Almighty arms of the Lord Jesus.

We can look beyond the troubles of this world as we know that we are going to a better country--a world where peace, truth, and righteousness will reign forever.

Even now, we know that God sits on the Throne of Glory and that the Lord Jesus Christ sits at His right hand interceding for us. Because Christ died on the cross of Calvary and paid the debt of our sins, we now have access to God Himself through Christ. How amazing is that?

Do you have peace? Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ as your own personal Lord and Savior?

Many of us are familiar with John 3:16 " For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

But, do you know the next two verses?

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:16 and 17, NKJV

And there it is! World peace and personal peace will only come through the Prince of Peace, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Do you have peace? This world is not a world of peace but rather a world of chaos. Does chaos or peace describe your life?

Come to Christ today. Confess your sin and unworthiness before God and cry out to Jesus for salvation. Today is the day of salvation. He will save you now and bring to you peace, joy, and happiness in Him.

God Bless You,

Linda
