Meaning of Peace

Meaning of Peace. In this Bible passage from the book of Haggai, we have a remarkable picture of the future coming of God's glory. Only God can grant true peace!

6 “For thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; 7 and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the Lord of hosts. 8 ‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts. 9 ‘The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘And in this place I will give peace,’ says the Lord of hosts.”

Haggai 2:6-9, NKJV

Meaning of Peace. In this Bible passage from the book of Haggai, we have a remarkable picture of the future coming of God's glory. Only God can grant true peace!

Meaning of Peace - Shake Heaven and Earth

As we go about our daily duties it is easy for us to forget God. How much influence does God have in this the 21st century? How many people even think about God, much less even believe He exists?

Haggai gives us a brilliant picture of things to come. The prophecy given above is a direct quote from the Lord of Hosts: I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; and I will shake all nations!

Though we may not remember or believe in God, He certainly views everything that happens on earth. God is patiently waiting now so that more may come to the full knowledge of Christ, but He sees what is happening in our world and the time will come when God will say, "Enough!"

Meaning of Peace - Desire of All Nations

The Old Testament is filled with marvelous views of God.

I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations.

Who is the "Desire of All Nations?" God - Almighty God is the Desire of All Nations. In other words, Haggai is quoting God who says that He will shake all nations and the end result will be that all will desire Him! It sounds unbelievable to us when we view our world today, but this prophecy will come to pass exactly as God has prophesied!

Meaning of Peace - Glorious Temple

Haggai describes the new glorious temple that will be built.

I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the Lord of hosts. 8 ‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts. 9 ‘The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts.

Can you see the picture being painted? All the world will worship God; He is the Desire of All Nations! The temple built at that time will be more wondrous than anything we can imagine. God owns all the silver and all the gold and it will be used to build a glorious temple so that all may come to the temple and worship Him.

But that is not all!

Meaning of Peace - God Given

‘And in this place I will give peace,’ says the Lord of hosts.”

And there it is! The world says, "Peace, peace," but there is no peace! Why not? Peace in this world will never happen apart from God, but peace will come! Haggai prophesies of a time to come when God will give peace.

So what is the meaning of peace? True peace is a gift of God. Though the nations will not truly experience peace until God brings it to pass, the true believer experiences peace now.

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Isaiah 26:3, KJV

Peace is only available through Jesus! This is the day of salvation. Today, all who come to Jesus and seek salvation through Him, will experience true peace. No battle will bring peace to nations or to individuals. Peace is a gift from God.

Our sin separates us from a Holy, Righteous, and Pure God who cannot look upon sin. The Lord Jesus bridged that gap between God and us when He died on the cross and fully paid the debt of our sins.

Go to Jesus; He will save you now and teach you the true meaning of peace, joy and contentment in Him.

God Bless You,

Linda
