Mary Mother of Jesus

Mary Mother of Jesus. Chosen by God, Mary was an extraordinary woman. We have much to learn when we look at the accounts given in the Bible about Mary.

26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”

Luke 1:26-28, NKJV

Mary Mother of Jesus - Introduction

The story of Mary is perhaps one of the most fascinating stories of the Bible. Though some may see her as one who has risen above all women because she was Jesus' mother, when reading the Biblical accounts of Mary, we realize that she was just an ordinary woman chosen by God for a very special purpose.

“Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” Luke 1:28, NKJV

In thinking of Mary, let us remember that, as children of God, we are all chosen for a very special reason as we live this life and seek to advance the kingdom of God. We are not here to just enjoy the things of this world and then move on. Most of us will live this life with very few people every remembering who we were. However, that is not so with God. He has a specific purpose for our life here on this earth. But, how do we find that specific purpose?

We have an advantage over Mary in that we have the completed Word of God. We can know, as Paul Harvey used the say, "The rest of the story." We can learn and understand how God made us and how we can live in a way that magnifies and glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ.

Looking at Mary the Mother of Jesus requires more than just one devotional. Instead, we will be looking at seven aspects of the life of Mary and consider what we can learn from them.
