A Bible Devotion from Psalm 60
The Help of Man is Useless
11 Give us help from trouble, for the help of man is useless. 12 Through God we will do valiantly, for it is He who shall tread down our enemies.
Psalm 60:11-12, NKJV
What an amazing truth is taught in verse 11. The help of man is useless.
How many do you know who understand and believe verse 11? We live in a culture today that believes the opposite: the help of God is useless. The god of this world is man. No one created us, we evolved; that makes us the highest being! Everything you see around you is due to the glory of man. Look at the great achievements made in the last 100 years! Sounds pretty convincing, doesn't it?
Don't be deceived by such thinking; God is not mocked. He IS longsuffering which we tend to interpret as He is not there. Where is He then?
I find it fascinating that this world is filled with stories of good witches and bad witches, good demons and bad demons, and good spirits and evil spirits. I think this shows a deeper understanding that is innate in all of us. There is a true spiritual realm in which God reigns with His angels, and Satan constantly attacks and devours with his evil angels.
In this spiritual realm, man is truly useless; his power comes from Christ or Satan, and there is no other! This spiritual realm is not under the bidding of man; rather, man is led by this spiritual realm. Christian, don't ever forget that! Don't look around you in discouragement and wonder where God is. He is always there, and always ready to fight the forces of Satan to protect you.
You do have a guardian angel who never leaves your side. Even though you cannot see this angel, he is there. He is God's servant ready to do God's bidding at all times, and he is not bound by the forces of nature. What may seem impossible to man is always possible with God.
Pray today that God would fill you with the awareness of His angel of protection who never leaves your side.
