Shining out of Darkness. We live in a time of great cynicism and suspicion of things pertaining to religion. Many view religion as a crutch people use to take them through life; but, that's OK. You're OK, I'm OK. Is that really true?
3 But even if our gospel is
veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god
of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the
gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on
them. 5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and
ourselves your bondservants
for Jesus’ sake. 6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out
of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the
knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:3-6, NKJV
Who is Christ? Christ is the Light Shining Out of Darkness. We live in a time of great cynicism and suspicion of things pertaining to religion. Many view religion as a crutch people use to take them through life; but, that's OK. You're OK, I'm OK. Is that really true? How do you tell the difference between true and false religion?
For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake.
First of all, the true believer is not trying to glorify themselves; glory, instead, is turned to Christ. When you see religious people seeking to bring glory to themselves instead of God, be forewarned that that is not a good sign.
Second,
true religion tells us that we are spiritually blind; there is nothing
we can do in and of ourselves to make ourselves worthy to stand before
God.
But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
If we are spiritually blind, what can we do to reach God?
For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
There lies the secret! Christ is the Light Shining Out of Darkness; all of our faith and hope lies in Christ! It is Christ, alone, who saves us, keeps us, and brings us safely home to live with Him forever. Put your trust in none other!
Where
does your hope lie? In what are you trusting? Pray today that God would
lift the veil from your eyes and heart that you may turn to Christ, the
only Light. Christ is all! The things of this world, for which we slave our entire lives, will pass away, but the Word of God stands forever. In eternity, the things we have on this earth will be worth nothing!
