Psalm 50

A Bible Devotion from Psalm 50

The Mighty One has Spoken

The Mighty One, God the Lord, has spoken and called the earth from the rising of the sun to its going down, out of Zion, the perfection of beauty. God will shine forth. Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent; and it shall be very tempestuous all around Him. He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that He may judge His people. . . . But to the wicked God says: What right have you to declare My statutes, or take My covenant in your mouth, seeing you hate instruction and cast My words behind you? When you saw a thief, you 'consented' with him, and have been a partaker with adulterers. You give your mouth to evil, and your tongue frames deceit. You sit and speak against your brother, you slander your own mother's son. These things you have done, and I kept silent; you thought that I was altogether like you; but I will rebuke you, and set them in order before your eyes.
Psalm 50:1-4 and 16-21, NKJV

Psalm 50 is a very sobering Psalm and one we must take care to act upon. It describes the time to come which we will all experience. God will bring all of the souls of men together from heaven above and the earth beneath. No one will escape this courtroom. He is a just God; He will not be bought with money. The only payment He will receive is from those who have bowed the knee before Christ and cried out to Him for salvation. God then sees the righteousness of Christ when He gazes upon us.

There are only two classes of people in this courtroom; the Godly and the ungodly. He will gather His saints together with Him, but the ungodly will be sent to the eternal lake of fire. This is not a scare tactic, it simply is the truth!

Many today do not believe there is a God because, in spite of their great sin, they have never been struck by lightening or have been judged in any way. God's answer to them when they stand before Him is: These things you have done, and I kept silent; you thought that I was altogether like you; but I will rebuke you, and set them in order before your eyes.

Pray today that you will think seriously about the unbelievers around you and pray that God would bring about their salvation.
