Psalm 100

A Bible Devotion from Psalm 100

Know the Lord

1 Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! 2 Serve the LORD with gladness; come before His presence with singing. 3 Know that the LORD, He is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture. 4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. 5 For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.
Psalm 100, NKJV

I love reading this Psalm; it has such a positive ring to it. If you have not already done so, this Psalm is a great one to commit to memory.

Remember back to your childhood (for some of us that's a long way back!) and think about your life then. Did you worry about money, or food, or really much of anything? For most of us, those are topics we never thought about; our parents supplied our needs so we just accepted that food, clothing, money, etc. would always be there.

That is exactly the attitude we Christians should have toward God. What do you worry about? Why? The answer: Know the Lord; He is God. It is He who made us and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Look at the last verse: 5 For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations. What a glorious truth; God's truth endures to all generations (that's us, too)!

So, the next time we are about to complain about our day, let us stop for a minute and read this Psalm again and then pray that we will live this day in a spirit of joy and gladness because God is our Father and He takes care of all of our needs!

What an amazing God we serve!
