Peace of God
Philippians 4

Peace of God, Philippians 4. As so often before, we are reminded that Christianity is a religion of the heart. Our hearts and minds are kept faithful because of Christ's gift of salvation.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:7, KJV

Peace of God
Philippians 4

Our Bible benediction for today is rather interesting because it starts with the word, "and," meaning it is tied to the verses preceding it. Verses 4, 5, & 6 tell us that certain qualifications must be met before this benediction can be applied to ourselves. What are those qualifications?

4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice! 5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

*Rejoice in the Lord always.
*Be careful [anxious] for nothing.
*By prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

How can we possibly obey the three qualifications shown above? We do not always feel like rejoicing, we certainly cannot avoid worry, and, unfortunately, we usually try to work out our problems first, and then finally, go to the Lord when nothing else works.

As so often before, we are reminded that Christianity is a religion of the heart. Our hearts and minds are kept faithful because of Christ's gift of salvation. It is good for us to understand our own helplessness in these matters. Only through Christ and by the power of Christ can we truly rejoice in the Lord always, and avoid anxiousness. Also, through Christ we understand that we must pray and beseech God before we even attempt to solve our own problems.

What an awesome God we have! We have access to God's peace which truly surpasses our understanding. He keeps our hearts and our minds faithful to Christ Jesus. I am reminded of this chorus:

Oh that will be
Glory for me
Glory for me
Glory for me
When by His grace
I shall look on His face.
That will be glory
Be glory for me.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

By the grace of God, let us tap into this amazing resource: God' peace, which is given to all of His children. The peace which God grants and the resulting joy are truly amazing gifts of God. Even in the darkest of hours, we can access God's amazing peace. As reminded in Philippians 4, God's peace passes all understanding.

How can we truly comprehend a God who, while we were yet sinners, sent His only Son to die for us that we might live forever with Him? Even more, how can we understand that the attributes of God: His strength, His power, and His might are made available to us, His children, 24/7? This is the God we serve.

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me.

I once was lost, but now am found.

Was blind, but now I see.
