Lest You Forget

Lest You Forget. There is much learning and knowledge in our world today, but is there much wisdom and understanding? Learning and knowledge are good; everyday we discover new truths about this world that God has created. Yet, what good is that learning and knowledge apart from wisdom and understanding?

5 “Surely I have taught you statutes and judgments, just as the LORD my God commanded me, that you should act according to them in the land which you go to possess. 6 Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes, and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’

7 “For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the LORD our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him? 8 And what great nation is there that has such statutes and righteous judgments as are in all this law which I set before you this day? 9 Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And teach them to your children and your grandchildren.
Deuteronomy 4:5-9, NKJV

Lest You Forget

The promises given to the nation of Israel shown above are now the promises granted to all of God's people as we are taught in the book of Acts and other New Testament books. We are the new Israel of God!

God knows our hearts and the fact that we are prone to wander and forget the God we love. Therefore He warns us: Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life.

What things is God talking about in the verses shown above? Surely I have taught you statutes and judgments, just as the LORD my God commanded me, that you should act according to them in the land which you go to possess. Look at what God then said in the next verse: This is your wisdom and your understanding

.

There it is! There is much learning and knowledge in our world today, but is there much wisdom and understanding? Learning and knowledge are good; everyday we discover new truths about this world that God has created. Yet, what good is that learning and knowledge apart from wisdom and understanding? Often man comes to his own understanding rather than accept the truths of the Bible. However, only in the truth of God's Word do we gain wisdom and a right understanding of the world in which we live.

In our world we tend to think that the more education one has, the more understanding or wisdom that person has. We are confusing head knowledge with heart knowledge. We may learn many things through advanced education, but that does not mean we are necessarily wise. Godly wisdom comes from the Lord. Even those who lack a formal education can be rich in Godly wisdom.

Pray today that you will get wisdom and understanding from God and that He will graciously help you to apply it to your life by living in obedience to the commandments of God. More and more we are put in countries which make their own laws, often completely contrary to God's laws. As Christians, our duty is to obey God rather than man.

Read and study the Bible daily; learn God's commandments and will for your life, and pray that the Holy Spirit will instruct and guide you that you may grow in Godly knowledge. Teach this Word to your children and grandchildren that God's Word may continue in your family to all generations. Let us pray that God will help us to remember Him in all that we thing, say, and do.

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow!
