Gospel of Peace

Gospel of Peace. Everyone talks about world peace, but no one knows how to attain it. Why is that? Could it be that they are looking in the wrong place?

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace.

Ephesians 6:14-15, NKJV

Gospel of Peace

I cannot help, when I think of Peace, but think of Sandra Bullock portraying a contestant for the Miss America pageant. What was the one thing every single contestant spoke of in their question and answer sessions with the judges? World peace.

Everyone talks about world peace, but no one knows how to attain it. Why is that? Could it be that they are looking in the wrong place? Truly, there is no peace apart from God, and world peace will never happen in this world until God brings it at the end of time. From the time Satan entered the Garden of Eden and led in the temptation of Adam and Eve, world peace vanished on this earth.

How important are shoes or footwear? One only has to wear a badly fitting pair of shoes for just a few hours to answer that question. For the soldier, would bad fitting footwear affect his performance on the battle field? Yes! Along with this footwear, the soldier in Bible times would be wearing greaves to protect his legs.

Why is the Christian to be shod with the preparation of peace, and what exactly is this peace? There is only one means of peace and that is to be totally reconciled to God. Because God, alone, is all righteousness and purity, anything apart from that creates turmoil and a great lack of peace. How can we, as sinful people, become reconciled to God? The only way for true reconciliation is through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our Lord, the Son of God, came to this earth and took on the form of a man. He lived and died on this earth. Why? He came to this earth for one purpose, and that was to save a people for Himself. He accomplished just that through His death, burial, and resurrection. He has now ascended and sits at the right hand of God the Father making reconciliation for us.

Where, then, do we find true peace? True peace is found only in the Lord Jesus Christ. Let us look to God for all of our help and all of our peace. Let us cry out to Him for His full and perfect salvation so that our feet may be shod with peace.

Calvin exhorts us to prepare ourselves for this peace by laying aside anything that would hinder us from Christ and to be prepared for our journey in this life including the war between Satan and the children of God. Paul tells us that the best remedy for us is to shod our feet with the gospel of peace.

Let us go, then, as soldiers of Christ. Our waists are girded with truth, we have the breastplate of righteousness, and our feet are shod with the preparation of peace!
