Ephesians 3:14 to 21
Rooted in Love

Ephesians 3:14 to 21. Paul expresses the great riches of faith found in the Lord Jesus Christ. When we begin to comprehend the extent of this great salvation, we can do nothing but fall on our knees before God our Father. He, in His great love and holiness, has granted to us what no other being has the power to grant.

14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,[c] 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Ephesians 3:14 to 21
Rooted in Love

According to the riches of His glory, Paul prays that we will be strengthened with might through God's Spirit in the inner man. This knowledge of God and knowledge of our place as His children is almost too wonderful for words. To the very core of our beings, in our innermost thoughts and hopes, we are strengthened by the Holy Spirit. All of this comes to us through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. This understanding was totally foreign in the minds of the people from Ephesus to whom Paul was speaking.

But then, this knowledge is totally foreign to us, as well, when we are apart from Christ. As creatures of this world, we are steeped in the ideas and culture of the world in which we live. Man is the highest being we understand. We do not have any understanding, apart from Christ, in the knowledge of God Almighty who, alone, rules on this earth above all other powers or principalities.

Yet look at what happens when we come to Christ. Our eyes, our hearts, and our minds are opened to understand things that are otherwise a great mystery to us. As Paul expresses it, we are rooted and grounded in love, and are able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height--to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge. In other words, we are able to be filled with all the fullness of God.

What an amazing God we serve. Through Christ, He has opened our minds and hearts to allow us to understand things that were a great mystery from the beginning of time until the time of Christ. Christ, who left the glories of heaven and ministered upon this earth, opened a way to God. Christ, the perfect Son of God and perfect Son of Man, was able to do what we cannot. He was able to satisfy and pay the debt of our sins before a righteous and holy God. Why did He so this? He did this because of His great love for us! Truly, this love passes knowledge!

However, not only have our sins been forgiven in Christ, but He grants us knowledge of and peace with this same God. What else matters? Nothing on this earth can compare to the riches of eternal life and eternal peace with God. And yet, that is exactly what we have gained in the Lord Jesus Christ. We have been filled with the fullness of God. Our eyes have been opened. We see the sin and corruption of this world for what it is, and we desire the holiness and perfection of an eternal life with God forever.

Nothing on this earth is worth loosing that eternal life with God the Father. Only in Christ do we find such peace and joy that even the difficulties we face in this life do not hamper our desire to live with Christ in heaven, forever!

As we consider Ephesians 3:14 to 21, let us go to Christ. In Him alone is found the width, the depth, and the height of the knowledge of the fullness of God!
