Commended to God
Acts 20

Commended to God, Acts 20. As Christians, we are often too busy to read the Word, too busy to attend church, and too busy to pray! What does that say about our relationship to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ?

32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

Acts 20:32, KJV

Commended to God
Acts 20

In our Bible benediction for today we find Paul at Ephesus speaking to the elders of the church. His benediction is short and complete, and so very applicable to us today. As Christians, we are often too busy to read the Word, too busy to attend church, and too busy to pray! What does that say about our relationship to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ?

We come to Christ by faith, not of works, but that does not mean there is no "work" to do in our personal Christian lives. Paul commends the elders to God and to the Word of His grace. God saves us and God keeps us--so there is no room for personal pride! He also commends us to the Word of God. How can we grow through the Word if we do not take the time to read it? How do we fellowship with God when we do not take the time to pray? How can we be built up in the Word without the preaching ministry of our church?

Today, I encourage you to actively take part in the means of grace God has given to you. Are you able to read? Read the Bible! Are you able to talk (aloud or inwardly)? Talk to God! Do you have feet that can walk, or a means of transportation? Go to church!

We, as 21st Century believers tend to be so caught up in the things and events of this world that we often hardly give any thought to God. Yet, what Paul is really saying here is this: I commend you to God because nothing else really matters. No matter what we gain on this earth, we cannot take it with us.

As believers, this world is not our home. It is just a probationary time. Our real life and our real work will happen after we leave this earth. Do you know for certain where you will go at the end of this life? What could be of more importance to you? Nothing!

Go to Christ. Fall before Him confessing your sin and accepting Him as your only Lord and Savior. Before God, He makes our hearts clean and free from sin. How amazing is that. And, when this earth is done He will usher us into His courts forever!

May God especially bless you this day as you seek to love and serve Him with all your might, with all your strength, and with all your heart.

And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
