Christ the Healer continues a series of Teen Devotions which answer the question, Who is Christ?
Then they brought Him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see.
Matthew 12:22, NKJV
Surely
He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered
Him stricken by God, smitten by Him, and afflicted. But He was pierced
for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the
punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are
healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to
His own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah 53:4-6, NKJV
When you think of Christ being the Healer, what is the first thing you think of? If you're like me, you start remembering all of the times He healed people as recorded in Gospels. One of those instances is recorded above in Matthew 12:22. It must have been an amazing time to live, watching Jesus, the Son of God, heal so many people. Which of those healings do you think was the greatest? That's a hard question to answer; actually, it's a trick question. For a hint, look at Isaiah 53:4-6.
Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered Him stricken by God, smitten by Him, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to His own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
We have all been born sick and diseased in sin; God laid all of that sin upon Christ on the cross. He took up all of our infirmities and carried all of our sorrows. It is true that when we think about this, we believe that it was God who punished Him. Who really sent Jesus to the cross? But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities. We did!
Let's go back to the question, which of Christ's healings do you think was the greatest? The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed. Remember, we are all born sick and full of the disease of sin; only Christ can heal us of this sickness. How did He do that? By His wounds! His wounds that brought Him death gave us peace! That's truly amazing.
