Behind the Veil

Behind the Veil. In our sinful state, we cannot even look upon the glory of God without instant death. After Moses spoke to God his face shone from God's glory so that the people could not even look at him. So, Moses put a veil on his face when he went before the people.

12 Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech— 13 unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. 14 But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. 15 But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. 16 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 3:12-18, NIV

Behind the Veil

When the tabernacle was built under Moses' supervision, a heavy veil was put up in the inner court. What was behind this veil? The Holy of Holies which included the ark of the covenant was behind the veil. Only the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies once a year bearing the sins of the people. When Christ was crucified, the veil of the temple was torn from top to bottom, opening the way of the Holy of Holies to all believers.

In our sinful state, we cannot even look upon the glory of God without instant death. After Moses spoke to God his face shone from God's glory so that the people could not even look at him. So, Moses put a veil on his face when he went before the people.

Today, the veil still blocks the unbelieving heart from God; unbelievers have a veil on their hearts which can only be removed by the blood of Christ. Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Just ponder verses 17 and 18 for a minute. The veil is lifted for the Christian; the believer has complete access to God! That access grants liberty (freedom from the chains of sin) to the believer. As such, the Christian is being transformed into the glorified image of Christ by the Spirit of the Lord.

Not only does the believer have access to God, but this access is available 24/7. Imagine that! God of all Gods is available to His children. No veil obstructs our way from Him.

Live today as a glorified saint no longer living behind the veil. Christ is all; pray that you will not live caught up in the world as those who have no hope in Christ. If the veil is obstructing your view this day, then turn to the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the way, the truth, and the life. There is no other way to Almighty God!
