Psalm 90

A Bible Devotion from Psalm 90
We Finish Our Years like a Sigh
1 Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
9b We finish our years like a sigh. 10 The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. 11 Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath. 12 So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:1-2 and 9b-12, NKJV
If you haven't said this yourself, you surely have heard others talk about the shortness of life. Where did the years go? One minute I was in my 20's and 30's with small children, and the next they are leaving home and I'm approaching my 6th decade. When you are in your 20's life seems as though it will go on forever. You feel invincible; nothing can stop you!
In our busyness of life it is so important that we remember that our life is just but a vapor. In all generations of man, God has been his dwelling place. As a matter of fact this Psalm reminds us that before this mountains were formed or the earth was created, God was already there. He is from everlasting to everlasting. The reminder in this Psalm is to teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. It is very easy for us to put off the important things of God until we are older because we are so busy living our lives. Unfortunately, hell will be filled with many who had every intention of looking to God in their later years of life. However, those years caught up with them and found them lost forever. Pray today that you will remember Psalm 90 and the shortness of your years and will go to Christ now for salvation from your sins and not wait until a later time.
