Psalm 76

A Bible Devotion from Psalm 76

The Wrath of Man Shall Praise You

You, Yourself, are to be feared; and who may stand in Your presence when once You are angry? 8 You caused judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared and was still, 9 When God arose to judgment, to deliver all the oppressed of the earth. 10 Surely the wrath of man shall praise You; with the remainder of wrath You shall gird Yourself. 11 Make vows to the LORD your God, and pay them; let all who are around Him bring presents to Him who ought to be feared. 12 He shall cut off the spirit of princes; He is awesome to the kings of the earth.
Psalm 76:7-12, KJV

We don't like to spend time pondering the judgment of God upon the wicked. It is so much more politically correct to talk about the love of God, His kindness, His patience, etc. However, have you ever thought about the fact the man's wrath actually praises God!

Does man ever really get the upper hand? Has God just put this earth here and then left man to rule it as he saw fit? Does man really shake his fist in the face of God and proclaim his own sovereignty and get away with it? These are questions we must face and we must answer! Yes God is a God of love, hope, patience, longsuffering, and much more, but He is also a righteous and Holy God who cannot allow sin to go unpunished.

Even for the Christian, our sin has not gone unpunished. Christ, the only perfect and righteous man, was the only one who could actually pay for our sin, but pay He did! Will the time come when everything will be made right again? Oh yes! Everyone, even the princes and kings of the earth will be called to account before this Holy and Righteouls God. The only ones found to be accepted by God will be those who called upon God as their Lord and Savior and claimed the blood of Christ as the only payment for their sin.

That's not scare tactics; that's just reality! That is the sober message of Psalm 76.

Pray today that you are right before God, and if not, claim the blood of Christ as the only payment for your sin, and Jesus Christ as the only true Lord of your life. You'll never regret it!
