I Must Preach

I Must Preach. What is your mission? For what purpose has God brought you to your present state in life? If you are a Christian, you do have a purpose! You are not here to just wile away the time in the lap of luxury until you die.

42 Now when it was day, He [Christ] departed and went into a deserted place. And the crowd sought Him and came to Him, and tried to keep Him from leaving them; 43 but He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.” 44 And He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.
Luke 4:42-43, NKJV

I Must Preach

Christ came to this earth with a mission, from which He never deviated during His time here on earth. Even as a child, He knew His mission. The crowds were pressing upon Him, trying to keep Him from leaving. What did He tell them? “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.”

What is your mission? For what purpose has God brought you to your present state in life? If you are a Christian, you do have a purpose! You are not here to just wile away the time in the lap of luxury until you die. You are not excused from God's purpose for you, even in retirement! Your mission may be with just a few people or a whole country - maybe even the whole world.

The Great Commission was given by Christ to all believers. Just as Christ never deviated from His mission, so must we never deviate from ours. Think of the abilities you have, the means you have, the people with whom you come into contact each day, and opportunities to help others locally and globally. Now you are closer to understanding your mission.

Christ needed to preach the kingdom. What must you do for Christ? As women, our number one focus is our own relationship to Christ, then to our husbands (if we are married), and then to our families. If you are a career woman, your career (and the people you meet each day in that career) is your mission. Your mission field is right where God has placed you. Does that mean that you can not serve in local or world-wide missions? Of course not.

Some are sent to the mission field in other countries, but what about you? You can pray for them, send them care packages, become involved in mission programs in your church, go and help in areas of your own country where a family has been devastated by a house fire or tornado, or go to help in areas where hurricanes, mudslides, or fires have destroyed large areas of land. How about making meals for someone who is sick or has just had a baby, or visiting someone in the hospital. How about a sister church or a sister city in another country?

What about sponsoring a child in a poor country. Just a few dollars a month can make an amazing difference in the life of a child. Organizations like "Compassion" can help you sponsor a child. It is a faith-based organization, so the training the child receives includes training in the Word of God.

Again, Christ said, "I must preach." What must you do for Christ?
