All You Who Labor

A Monthly Holiday Devotions Ezine with Labor Day devotional for the month of September, entitled, All You Who Labor.

28 "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30, New King James Version

All You Who Labor

As I was thinking of what to write for this devotional, I thought of this Bible passage from Matthew 11. Rest! Now is not that the first thing we think of as Labor Day weekend approaches? Rest from our labor--a day off from work.

Of course not everyone is able to enjoy this holiday. Many must work on Labor Day so that the rest of us may enjoy the day! What can you think of that is even better than a holiday from work?

If you said "retirement" you are certainly not alone. Just think of that mystical day to come when we are able to walk away from our jobs, never to return. With that in mind we are busy storing up goods for the future so that we will be able to retire without a worry in the world.

As I think about the bald eagle and imagine it soaring high above the earth, I like to envision retirement, with such freedom, and no cares in the world.

Unfortunately, many people never reach the age of retirement. Or, when they do, they find that their bodies are no longer sprightly as in the days of their youth.

What happened to all of those things we were going to do when we retired? Maybe, we will just have to watch them on TV!
Thankfully, for the Christian, we are reminded by Christ that there really is a day coming for us when we will truly be able to rest from our labor.

Christ calls to us, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

How do we get that rest?

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

What a blessed promise. Let us think about that as we make plans to celebrate Labor Day. Even more important than Labor Day preparations, are the preparations we need to make for our eternal retirement!

God Bless You,
Linda

For more devotions check my Daily Bible Devotions where we are currently doing a series called, What is in a Word? Right now we are looking at the word, Christ. It is interesting to look at some verses that we sometimes just read over without much thought, and really ponder their meaning.

The word, Christ, means "Anointed." Why do some verses call the Son of God, Jesus, while others call Him Jesus Christ? Check it out!
