Throne Room Doxology
Revelation 4

In this devotional, we are drawn to the very throne of God where we hear the four living creatures standing before the throne, praising God with the throne room doxology shown above from Revelation 4. When John was brought in the spirit before the throne of God, what did he see?

There before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. 3 And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne. 4 Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads. 5 From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. Before the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God. 6 Also before the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal.
Revelation 4:2b-6, NIV

John then describes the four living creatures standing before the throne. In verse 11 we are told that each time they cry out in praise, the twenty-four elders fall down before God, lay their crowns at His feet and proclaim the worthiness of God.

"You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being."

This is such a remarkable passage of Scripture; we would do well to read it every day, as it puts everything we face in perspective. This is the God we serve! This is our God!

In this, the 21st century, we tend to either treat God with complacency, or treat Him as though He is our best buddy--even in our worship services. While God is the dearest of dearest friends to us, we must remember that His holiness is so pure that we would die if we were to but gaze upon His face.

Paul, when approached by Christ who appeared to Him as a blinding light, was blind for many days. Let us reread the passages shown above from Revelation 4 and ponder this righteous and holy God we love and serve. May we approach Him with the honor and glory due His Holy name.

Just think of it. When we are in Heaven in our new glorified bodies, we will, as sinless creatures, be able to bow before this Holy and Righteous God and speak with Him face to face. How amazing is that?

"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come."
