Tabernacle of Moses
Exodus 25-27

Tabernacle of Moses, Exodus 25-27. Sometimes it is good for us to ponder passages such as Exodus 25 and realize that God cares about even the little details in life. He does not just sit on the throne of heaven far removed from His people. Rather, He is a personal God; He allows us to have a personal relationship with Him, as well as caring for even the small things in our lives.

1 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Speak to the people of Israel, that they take for me a contribution. From every man whose heart moves him you shall receive the contribution for me. 3 And this is the contribution that you shall receive from them: gold, silver, and bronze, 4 blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, goats' hair, 5 tanned rams' skins, goatskins, [1] acacia wood, 6 oil for the lamps, spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense, 7 onyx stones, and stones for setting, for the ephod and for the breastpiece. 8 And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst. 9 Exactly as I show you concerning the pattern of the tabernacle, and of all its furniture, so you shall make it.
Exodus 25:1-9, ESV

Tabernacle of Moses
Exodus 25-27

In Exodus 25-27, God gives to Moses specific instructions for the building of the Tabernacle of Moses, the Ark of the Covenant, the Table for the Bread, the Golden Lampstand, the Bronze Altar, the Court of the Tabernacle, and even the Oil for the Lamp. God of all Gods, for the first time since the fall of Adam, was coming to dwell among His people. God's instructions were specific - everything was to be done according to His commands.

Exodus 25 starts with God commanding Moses to take a contribution. From every man whose heart moves him you shall receive the contribution for me. What kinds of contributions were the people being asked to give?

1 And this is the contribution that you shall receive from them: gold, silver, and bronze, 4 blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, goats' hair, 5 tanned rams' skins, goatskins, acacia wood, 6 oil for the lamps, spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense, 7 onyx stones, and stones for setting, for the ephod and for the breastpiece.

It had been several months since the Children of Israel left Egypt. Where would they get these contributions? Do you remember these verses from Exodus 11?

Speak now in the hearing of the people, that they ask, every man of his neighbor and every woman of her neighbor, for silver and gold jewelry.” And the Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh's servants and in the sight of the people.

Did you wonder at the time why God told the people to plunder the Egyptians? God was preparing for the building of the tabernacle; the Egyptians had given them everything they needed for the building of the tabernacle and everything that would be put inside.

Sometimes it is good for us to ponder passages such as Exodus 25 and realize that God cares about the specific things in life. I read a book by Edith Schaefer several years ago, and remember her commenting on this very point. When God provided a chalet for them in Switzerland, even the curtains in the windows were exactly what she would have picked out. God knows and cares about the little details in our lives.

What an amazing God we have! He does not just sit in the throne of heaven far removed from His people. Rather, He is a personal God; He allows us to have a personal relationship with Him, as well as caring for even the small things in our lives.

Our God is living and active today in the lives of His people, just as He was when He gave the commands for the building of the Tabernacle of Moses.

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!
