Psalm 64
A Bible Devotion from Psalm 64 All Mankind will Fear
They [the wicked] encourage each other in evil plans, they talk about hiding their snares; they say, "Who will see them?" They plot injustice and say, "We have devised a perfect plan!" Surely the mind and heart of man are cunning. But God will shoot them with arrows; suddenly they will be struck down. He will turn their own tongues against them and bring them to ruin; all who see them will shake their heads in scorn. All mankind will fear. Psalm 64:5-9a

Does Psalm 64 remind you of anything? When reading the above verses, I thought of many movies and books that are prevalent today with this popular theme. Evil beings get together and think up a scheme for injustice, they plot and plan until they have devised a "perfect" plan. But what happens in the end? The good guys "shoot them with arrows" (or bombs, or automatic weapons, or mystical forces) until they are all struck down. Now everyone suddenly becomes friends of the good guy and shakes their heads in scorn at the wicked; all who are left fear the conqueror.
I find it interesting that even if a person is not a Christian, they carry an innate sense of right and wrong. Each person in their heart of hearts knows that he will never be able to attain perfect righteousness on this earth. It's not that man doesn't try! History is filled with mighty conquerors who believed they had reached a state of perfection, and demanded that all of their subjects bow down and worship them.
The true Christian is not fooled, righteousness only comes from God, And, this righteous God looks down upon the foolish attempts of man as they plot and devise evil against their neighbor. God will shoot His arrows at them and strike them down! We have no righteousness in and of ourselves, but we can fall down in confession before Christ and receive his righteous covering of our sins.
So, next time you see another "good versus evil" movie where good triumphs, just remember that it is a picture of reality. God who alone is good will ultimately triumph over the evil that Satan stirs up in the hearts of mankind.
Pray today that you will live knowing that the battle is already done; good has already triumphed over evil. Pray also that you are on the winning side!
