A Bible Devotion from Psalm 45

Out of the Ivory Palaces

Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom. You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions. All Your garments are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, by which they have made You glad. Kings' daughters are among Your honorable women; at Your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir.
Psalm 45:6-9, NKJV

How interesting that this Psalm follows Psalm 44. Remember our that theme: adoring God. Here we have an entire Psalm that does just that! Verses 6-9 use the picture of God as our King; He comes to us out of the ivory palaces.

Look how Psalm 45 begins: My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

Now there is something for us to do; write a composition of praise to God! Make it your own; use the personal experiences of your own life. We just cannot praise God enough; and yet we tend to do so little of it! What a mighty God we have; He sent His only Son to make a people for Himself by dying on the cross to pay for our sins! Do you understand that? I don't; and yet I constantly praise Him for it.

Flower Pot What other things should we praise Him for: the breathtaking world He has put us in; His power to keep this world in place and establish the balance of nature; the songs of the birds each morning singing their praises to Him; the miracle of a newborn, so helpless and in need; the joy of Christian marriage when the man and woman love each other with all of their hearts; a prosperous nation and the comforts it brings to us (God made us prosperous, not mankind.) This just barely scratches the surface of all that God is and does for His children.
