Sprint Car Nationals

A Monthly Holiday Devotions Ezine with a new holiday devotional for the month of August, entitled Sprint Car Nationals.

24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. 27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
1 Corinthians 9:24-26

August is one of those months that does not have a specific holiday (at least not here in the United States), so I am taking the liberty to write a devotion on a local event in the nearby town of Knoxville, Iowa. Each year, in the first week of August, thousands of people from all over the world flock to the little town of Knoxville to witness the Sprint Car Nationals.

As I was thinking of all of the race drivers and race teams, I thought about the hours and hours (as well as money) these teams have spent to prepare for this one big event. First they must qualify; then they do time laps to determine their place in the race; then they race and race and race to try to get to that Saturday night final. Only those who made it to the top spots earn the right to participate in that final race.

The Bible says that, as Christians, we are all in a race! So, we must all prepare ourselves for this most important race of life. In reality, though there is only one winner in a sprint car race, there are many "winners" in the Christian life. Still, we are told that wide is the way to destruction, but narrow is the way to eternal life with Christ.

Remember how all the romantic movies end with, boy gets girl and they live happily ever after? Talk about naive! Those of us who are married know that the marriage is just the beginning, not the end. "Happily ever after" is not an automatic thing; it takes work, and lots of it, from both spouses.

As Christians, this is also the case. Remember that glorious day when you first believed? You thought perfection had come to your life and you would be done with struggles. However, the Christian life is a race, and the world, the flesh, and the devil are constantly throwing blockades in your path.

We, of course, cannot work for our salvation, but the Christian life is a life of working for Christ, spending time in the Word, and lots of praying.

Even Paul, in 1 Corinthians took this very seriously when he said,

But I discipline my body and keep it under control lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.

Pray that God will keep you faithful to Him in this most important race of all, the race of life!

Linda

For more devotions check my Daily Bible Devotions where we are currently going through the Bible chronologically, and are now just starting Jeremiah. I am struck with the greater sorrow I feel because of the sins of Israel and Judah as they are told and retold through the words of the prophets. Then, I have to look my own life and wonder what sorrow I am bring to God because of my own sins. I'm really excited about where God is taking us as we go through the entire Bible this year. Hope you will join us!

Scriptures

My Scriptures business is really growing as well; if you have any inkling at all about doing a successfull internet marketing business--it does not come any easier than this!

The first goal of this company, called Scriptures is to spread the Gospel to as many people as possible by putting Bible verses on all of the products they sell. The offer an impressive range of natural vitamins and supplements, as well as hair and body care products, and, of course, Bible study CD's.

The cost, therefore is almost non-existent! Just buy products that you would normally buy, from them instead of elsewhere.

If you want to take the time to find your own downline, through friends, neighbors, and cold calling, go right ahead. (I hate doing all of the above.)

But, if you would rather let them do the work for you, you have the opportunity of joining three different advertising co-ops based upon the amount of money you are willing to invest each month. (It's unbelievably cheap! I know because I have been foolish enough to join companies that cost over $100 a month.)

The advertising is done by a professional advertising company who puts ads in Christian magazines and Christian web sites. As people respond to the ads, the people at Scriptures build your downline. Your only responsiblity, then, is to call these people so you can answer their questions and encourage them in their own business.

Now that kind of calling I can do! After all, I love to talk, and these people are ready to listen.

I will keep you advised as to my own progress.

Enjoy your summer!

God Bless You,
Linda
