Immanuel

A Monthly Holiday Devotions Ezine with a Christmas devotional for the month of December entitled, Immanuel.

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
Matthew 1:23, ESV

Immanuel

Can you believe it? Christmas is almost here! I must admit it seems a little more realistic after we received about three inches of snow over Thanksgiving weekend.

I am choosing a Christmas devotion I first wrote in October of this year in my Daily Bible Devotions blog when we were in the first chapter of Matthew.

I hope you do not mind the repetition (if you read my blog).

Everyone likes stories about babies, do they not? Especially babies who are destined for greatness. There is probably no "birth" story more familiar than that of the Christmas story, the birth of "God With Us." And rightly so! Since the creation of Adam, such a thing had never been known. In the Old Testament, Christ often appeared to men as an angel, but this time, He was born as a man--the God Man.

Take some time to ponder the phrase, "God with us." What humiliation did the Son of God have to suffer to willingly come to this earth, to be born of a woman, to grow up under the tutelage of parents, and to ultimately sacrifice His life for a people who despised Him? He left the throne of Glory to live in this sin-infested place we call the Earth. It was not even during a time such as ours with so many modern conveniences!

Even as a child 12 years old, He was already focused on His ultimate purpose for being here. He knew, however, it was not yet His time, so He willingly submitted Himself to His parents' authority. Once His eartly ministry began, every single word He spoke, and every single thing He did was focused on the cross.

We are reminded again, that we have one single purpose after becoming a Christian; every word we speak and every thing we do is to be focused on the work Christ did for us on the cross. Immanuel, God with us, paid the price for our sins that we might be made the righteousness of Christ before God.

I leave you with a poem, written by my husband, David.

He Bore Our Sins

He bore our sins and shall not we
In patient calm and quiet sit
To praise the Blessed Majesty
Who for our soul's safe benefit
Doth with a father's tender eye
A skilled and wise physician's care
Eclipse earth's all ephemeric ease
Commanding us a cross to bear

He bore our sorrows on the tree
The Captain our salvation wrought
There clothed in our humanity
Eternal habitations bought
So let us learn to praise the will
Of Him who for us doth array
A narrow path of trials here
A mansion resurrection day

He who in very nature God
Despisèd not to condescend
Oh magnify His name and laud
Who drank the cup and purchased men
Eternity's too short a day
To glorify His holy name
Dear saint but lightly chastened here
Rejoice in hope O mortal frame

Fair Christian faint not here but lift
Your eye to heaven's lofty gate
Where sits enthroned the Prince of Peace
The Mediator Potentate
To Him who by His grace and will
Sustains our wretched feebleness
Fall down and praise His glory till
His rod blooms to our blessedness

You may read more of David's poetry on my web site, Devotional Reflections from the Bible.

Have a safe and blessed holiday season.

God Bless You,
Linda

For more devotions check my Daily Bible Devotions where we are currently going through the Bible chronologically, and are in Acts and the corresponding letters written by Paul. It has been very interesting reading the New Testament books while going through the corresponding time frame in Acts.

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
Ephesians 3:17-19

Scriptures

My Scriptures business is really growing as well; if you have any inkling at all about doing a successfull internet marketing business--it does not come any easier than this!

The first goal of this company, called Scriptures is to spread the Gospel to as many people as possible by putting Bible verses on all of the products they sell. The offer an impressive range of natural vitamins and supplements, as well as hair and body care products, and, of course, Bible study CD's.

The cost, therefore is almost non-existent! Just buy products that you would normally buy, from them instead of elsewhere.

If you want to take the time to find your own downline, through friends, neighbors, and cold calling, go right ahead. (I hate doing all of the above.)

But, if you would rather let them do the work for you, you have the opportunity of joining three different advertising co-ops based upon the amount of money you are willing to invest each month. (It's unbelievably cheap! I know because I have been foolish enough to join companies that cost over $100 a month.)

The advertising is done by a professional advertising company who puts ads in Christian magazines and Christian web sites. As people respond to the ads, the people at Scriptures build your downline. Your only responsiblity, then, is to call these people so you can answer their questions and encourage them in their own business.

Now that kind of calling I can do! After all, I love to talk, and these people are ready to listen.

I have found that their predictions are very accurate, my downline is growing. God is so good!

SCRIPTURES UPDATE:

Everything this company has said is true; I am getting about the number of people in my downline as they said I would. (It's nice to know someone who actually tried it out before you take the plunge!)

Have a great December--I will see you next year!

God Bless You,
Linda
