Doxology Prayer
Psalm 72

Doxology Prayer, Psalm 72. Yes, God does answer prayer, and yes, we are to go to Him with all of our needs, but it would be good for us to set aside times for a  prayer of praise to God.

And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.
Psalm 72:19, KJV

Doxology Prayer
Psalm 72

Psalm 72 is one of many Psalms of prayer by David. As would be expected, he asks of God all of the sorts of things one would expect a king to ask. He asks for victory from his enemies, he asks God to help him judge in righteousness, he asks that prayers be made for him, and that blessings would be invoked upon him. But, are these really prayers for him or testimonies of God?

After beginning the Psalm with these words, Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king's son, he seems to shift to praising God throughout the rest of the Psalm. But, the real doxology begins in verse 18.

Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things.

What a prayer! How often do we sit down and simply pray a prayer of praise to God, without heaping it full of requests upon requests? If we did so, would our prayer stretch out for 20 verses?

In this doxology of David we understand that David's proclaims everything he has done to be due to God's wondrous intervention in His life. In this, the 21st Century, do we realize that the implications made by David are just as applicable to us? Truly, what do we do apart from God's help. Everything we are and everything we ever hope to be is a testimony of God's grace in our lives. He made us, He blesses us, He guides us, and He keeps us faithful to Him. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!

Yes, God does answer prayer, and yes, we are to go to Him with all of our needs, but it would be good for us to set aside times for a doxology prayer. Better yet, make a list of praises to God. Keep it handy, and add to it each day. Then, pray that list as a prayer of praise to God. Be sure to end it with the words of Psalm 72:19.

And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.
