Children of Light

Children of Light! As we continue our devotions from the Gospel of John, chapter 12, we consider Jesus admonition that as we believe in Him, the Light of the World, that we do not walk in darkness, but rather in light!

34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
(John 12:34-36King James Version)

Jesus did not hide himself from the people, yet many refused to believe on His name. Their unbelief is evident by the questions they asked.

The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?

The people simply could not get beyond the "man" standing before them, to understand that this was no ordinary man. Christ, the Son of man, was truly God, the Son. Jesus' response was both an encouragement and a gentle rebuke.

Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. While ye have light, believe in the light. Why? We are to walk in the light that we may show that He is the Light of the World--the hope for all mankind!

There it is! The choice is before every person who ever lived and ever will live. While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children who walk in that Light.

What is the difference between darkness and light? What, then, is the difference between children of darkness or light? Is that difference evident in our walk with the Lord, or do we muddy our lives so that often that the light is hidden from view?

It is a good question to ponder. As God's children, let us, this day, walk as children of light, shining forth to a dark world around us, proclaiming that the Light of the World, is Jesus!
